Welcome Back!
Okay, technically it’s not ‘welcome back’ since this is an entirely new platform, but if you had visited the website in its previous form, then hi! The previous iteration of XPNJunkie was on a subdomain of a partner website, and it was just something I was updating every so often. And it was going well, for a few years. It wasn’t going to knock anyone’s socks off, but it was fun, and it was an outlet for my need to write.
Unfortunately, I received word at the beginning of this year that my web host was hanging it up after this one last renewal. Which was understood; he was an independent web host, not a huge mega corporation, so when he decides it’s time to retire, there isn’t much else to do but shrug and admit that we had a good run.
Knowing that the blog was going to pretty much delete itself out of existence in the near future was a bit of a buzzkill, to be honest. It was hard to write for a blog that was on life support. But I did realize, as I was pain-stakingly backing up years of posts and images, was that I really needed to have local files. Previously, I would just sign into my blog, hop into Wordpress, and start clacking away. And there’s something about writing in a big blue text box, like I am now, that hinders a bit of creative freedom. I’ve never been a huge fan of “internet format” where paragraphs are spread apart, there’s no indented first line, etc. It kinda drives me nuts. So I began writing locally, awaiting the day when I had the energy to create the blog anew.
And the posts really began to pile up. File after file, entry after entry. It was becoming apparent that they needed to be shared— because if not, then it’s just a diary about video games. And that’s kinda weird.
So I’m back, on a new (kind of expensive) platform. But it’s not Wordpress, and that can be either a good thing or a bad thing. We will see. I have some pretty big plans in the near future, and I’m working to get the concept nailed down. I’ll share it soon. For now I will just say that there’s a classic video games medium that desparately needs a comeback.
Until then, I will be slowly fleshing this website out. This is not my job, so it will definitely not happen overnight, but I don’t plan on sitting on it forever, either. Just like my previous website, I believe it will begin to take shape organically, as I figure out what works, and what doesn’t.
So thanks for reading this, and welcome back to XPNJunkie. Believe me, I tried to think of a better name.
